To enjoy maximum audio entertainment, you will need two AAA batteries to enable the ANC (active noise canceling). Otherwise, it works like a regular headphone. CNet compared these headphones to Bose's highest-end model. Based on the review, the NC1100B used a thicker, firmer ear cushion, and may be a better fit for some. The primary shortcoming noted was an overemphasized bass. But overall, they gave the headphones a "good" rating, and for this price, you can probably mentally bump that rating up at least a half star for value.
