I have one of these. It works well. Their customer service is great, too. If I didn't have one and I didn't care about all the extra Roku stuff, I'd buy this one.
If you just want a way to watch Netflix in 1080p without extra bells and whistles and don't care about Hulu Plus (who wants to pay for ads, amirite?), this will get you there for $25. You'll pay twice this price for a new model, and basically twice this for any Roku alternative you'd find (which might not even output 1080p). WiFi and Ethernet are both built into this one.
This isn't a Roku, but it's a lot cheaper. You get full 1080p output - NOT standard on the lower model Roku players. You can't stream Hulu Plus, but you CAN stream Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, etc., and you have your choice of Ethernet or WiFi connectivity. Lowest price we've seen by $5.
If you want a cheaper alternative to the Roku, this today-only deal on DLink's MovieNite media streamer might do the trick. For $35 shipped, it'll stream Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, and more over built-in WiFi or Ethernet. Plus it's full 1080p, not that 720p business you get on the lower-model Rokus. $13 off the next best price.
