At first glance, these speakers appeal to the modern art or design enthusiast. They've even been added to New York's Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. To my slightly less trained eye, they look like slightly distorted mechanical jellyfish. Thankfully, unlike jellyfish, these probably won't sting you if you spring for them. Their sound is very well-reviewed in general, and there are plenty of little design perks to the system, including the ability to tilt the satellite speakers at various angles for optimum sound dispersion (or to position them more suggestively next to your aquarium).

This eBay deal on these refurb Harman Kardon SoundSticks III matches the best price we've seen on the set. They're iconic (even in a museum) and work with anything with a 3.5mm output - your MP3 player, phone, computer, whatever.

Lowest price we've seen on the refurb SoundSticks III speakers from Harman Kardon through eBay Deals. Very popular, well-reviewed speaker set for computers, MP3 players, or whatever you want to plug into them. Next best price is $27 more.

They charged me sales tax for Florida. They didn't say they were in Florida, they say HK United States. Maybe that is a lie for Hong Kong, and not United States. In any case, the sales tax says that they are in Florida, since the US Government, or lack of, has not made sales tax of internet purchass law yet. I doubt they are in Florida since the shipping says I won't get it for two weeks. Big mystery about the sales tax. The price was still good, so if the product is like new, it won't be a big deal, it's just misleading to not tell someone you are going to tax their purchase before they agree to buy it.

    Hey Joe,

Yeah, unfortunately a handful of states are requiring sales tax for online purchases these days. (At the bottom of the HK eBay deal page: "We are required by law to collect sales tax on items shipped to the following states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina.")

It's the same states at pretty much any legitimate online retailer...TigerDirect, Best Buy, etc...but some are just more clear about it leading up to purchase. Sorry for the confusion, and hopefully you'll enjoy them regardless once they arrive.

Right now Harman Kardon is selling their refurbished SoundSticks III 2.1 speaker system through eBay deals for a full $51 cheaper than the new next best price. Some of my friends and I used these at a party, and while they're not 15" Cerwin Vega floorstanders, it's pretty impressive how loud these can go while still maintaining clarity. These are the most popular speakers Harman Kardon sells, and they're compatible with everything from iPods to DVD players with the right inexpensive cables, so if you're looking for nice powered speakers for just over a Ben Frank with free shipping, grab 'em.
